笛手肖科平的丈夫李缅宁是北京航空学院的高材生，双面本在西北搞飞机。婚后，双面肖科平找关系将丈夫调回北京，找了个看仓库的活，夫妻关系危机四伏。古典音乐的失落导致肖科平只能在大饭店演奏助兴，李缅宁则沉醉在游戏机中。二人终于分手，但因无房，暂住同一单元里。李肖各自将新欢带回家中并介绍给对方。夏去秋来，李缅宁最终当上了豪华饭店的大堂经理，肖科平则坐在演奏台上，吹着那些老曲目。
