元足Gabrielle élève seule sa fille Claire. À 17 ans celle-ci est enceinte de Simon qui refuse de se voir imposer ce bébé. Gabrielle prend les choses en main et décide de demander de l’aide au père de Simon. Elle débarque donc dans le bureau d’Ange, mais celui-ci, célibataire endurci et grand séducteur, n’a jamais assumé sa paternité et n’a aucune intention de le faire. C’est une première rencontre explosive mais Gabrielle ne manque ni de charme, ni de détermination.

Fishing in the vicinity, he catches...a mermaid. He takes her home and, though she has no spoken language, falls in love with her. Of course, his wife won't believe that thing in the bathtub is anything but a large fish. Predictable complications follow in rather tame fashion.

When Reg is injured and loses his well-paid job, they are evicted by bailiffs, and they face a life of poverty and unemployment, illegally squatting in empty houses and staying in shelters. Finally, Cathy has her children taken away by social services.
