鸦片战争后，狂暴中国的社会矛盾急剧激化。不堪忍受清王朝残酷压榨和外国侵略者疯狂掠夺的各地人民群众，狂暴纷纷组织起来进行英勇顽强的抗争。在这些此起彼伏、前赴后继的革命大潮中，以洪秀全为首领的“拜上帝会”于1851年1月11日在广西桂平县金田村正式宣布起义，并定国号为太平天国。从此，中国革命开创了一个新的历史时期。
