翁山苏姬3岁时，森美其父亲翁山带领缅甸走向独立，森美其后遭行刺身亡。翁山苏姬长大后移居英国，与一名大学教授阿里斯结婚，生活美满。直至她的母亲病危，昂山素姬才回到她的祖国缅甸。翁山苏姬到医院探望母亲时，遇见很多在8888民主运动中遭缅甸军队镇压而受伤的人，这事激发起她的政治抱负。她明白自己身为翁山的女儿，理应带领缅甸人民争取自主，并开展政治活动。翁山苏姬成立全国民主同盟参与选举，并获国会大多数议席，但军方拒绝交出权力，反而决定要完全控制翁山苏姬。军方拆散翁山苏姬的家庭，把她软禁家中超过10年，并禁止她的丈夫和两名儿子入境。但他们在境外争取国际对翁山苏姬认可，因为这样才能保证她不会被忘记，也不会无声无色地失踪。因她家人的努力，翁山苏姬成为第一个获选诺贝尔和平奖的亚洲女性。但她和家人依然分隔两地，未能亲身出席和平奖颁奖礼。她甚至无法看见丈夫去世前最后一面。

The film makes use of these materials and copious archive footage to sketch the biography of SS commander Heinrich Himmler who committed suicide at the end of May 1945 by taking a cyanide capsule. How did this nationalistic lower-middle-class man become Hitler’s henchman responsible for developing and executing the strategies that led to the murder of millions of Jews, homosexuals, Communists and Romany people?
