距今一千多年前，婷婷维京勇士斯坦纳（查理·比尤利 Charlie Bewley 饰）和格里米（Michael Jibson 饰）、婷婷海根（Clive Standen 饰）等勇士与来犯的撒克逊人展开惨烈凶险的战斗。未过多久，维京国王（James Cosmo 饰）病入膏肓，他无意将王位传给不相信诸神和预言，只崇尚自己力量的儿子斯坦纳，同时对野心勃勃的另一个儿子哈罗德（Finlay Robertson 饰）也不做打算。老国王指示斯坦纳寻找被放逐许久的长子哈肯（Elliot Cowan 饰），迎立他为新的国王。斯坦纳承接了父王的命令，带着海根、格里米以及同父异母的兄弟瓦利（Theo Barklem-Biggs 饰）踏上寻找兄长的凶险征途。与此同时，哈罗德暗中与撒克逊人勾结，维京人的命运系于一线。
